While attaching importance to the balanced development of each subspecialty to enhance the comprehensive strength of tertiary disciplines, the Department of Critical Care Medicine combines national needs and current development trends of critical care disciplines with its own expertise to form its own significant clinical characteristics in acute kidney injury (AKI) and integrated blood purification (HBP) treatment, sepsis, shock, severe pneumonia, ARDS, acute severe pancreatitis, polytrauma, liver transplantation, and critical maternal care.

It has launched and systematically established standardized respiratory support (mechanical ventilation, VV-ECMO, etc.) and airway management technology, as well as hemodynamic monitoring (PiCCO, Swan-Ganz, APCO) and support technology (IABP, VA-ECMO, etc.), microcirculation (SDF) monitoring, intracranial pressure and intra-abdominal pressure monitoring, bedside ultrasound (critical cardiopulmonary and renal ultrasound, ultrasound-guided puncture catheterization, etc.), bedside bronchoscopy, percutaneous dilation tracheostomy and other monitoring and diagnosis and treatment systems.

In addition, integrated blood purification treatments (CVVH, CVVHD, CVVHDF, SLED, albumin dialysis, plasma exchange, hemoperfusion, online replacement fluid generation, dual plasma molecular adsorption system, plasma diafiltration) are a highlight of the department.

In addition, he has accumulated rich clinical experience in medical care such as prone position ventilation, lung recruitment, analgesia and sedation, bedside jejunal tube insertion, rehabilitation and reconstruction of ICU patients, and mild hypothermia treatment.

Over the years, the advanced medical technology of the Department of Critical Care Medicine has been continuously radiated to all parts of the country through training of training doctors, holding various types of continuing education and training courses, telemedicine, etc., and has established business cooperation relationships with nearly a hundred medical institutions in more than 30 different provinces and armies across the country.

In recent years, the Department of Critical Care Medicine has treated more than 4,000 critically ill patients every year, of which more than 40% are patients from other places, more than 80% are difficult and critical patients, and the hospital survival rate exceeds 92%.

Among them, the survival rate for severe acute kidney injury exceeds 70%, the survival rate for acute respiratory distress syndrome exceeds 80%, the survival rate for acute severe pancreatitis exceeds 90%, and the perioperative survival rate of liver transplantation exceeds 98%, which is among the leading levels in the country.

As the "Beijing Treatment Center for Severe Pregnant Women", it treats 15-25 cases of critically ill pregnant women transferred from other hospitals every year, with a survival rate of over 98%, making an important contribution to the control of maternal mortality in Beijing.

In recent years, the Department of Critical Care Medicine has carried out more than 30 new medical treatments and new technologies at all levels, obtained more than 20 patents, and obtained 2 specialist scientific and technological achievements transformation projects;

Chief editor of "Acute Kidney Injury and Blood Purification" (People's Medical Publishing House), and co-editor of several national-level textbooks such as "Critical Care Medicine";

He has undertaken more than 20 national, provincial and ministerial level funds and published more than 60 SCI papers (the highest IF is 20).

Since 2012, it has hosted national continuing education projects "Acute Kidney Injury and Blood Purification Treatment Seminar" and "National Practical Blood Purification Technology Training Course" every year, with a total of more than 5,000 participants.

The Department of Critical Care Medicine insists on conducting high-quality critical care medicine lectures, critical case discussions, literature introductions and scientific research reports every week, gradually forming a talent echelon in the discipline.

The Department of Critical Care Medicine will further strengthen the specialty advantages that have been formed, carry out clinical problem-oriented scientific research, focus on transforming medical research results into clinical technology, make full use of modern network technology to further improve the radiation capabilities of this discipline across the country, continue to cultivate a group of comprehensive talents with a profound foundation in this specialty, further improve the overall clinical capabilities of this specialty, some sub-specialty directions have reached the international advanced level, and initially built a research-based critical illness diagnosis and treatment platform with international standards.

2. Characteristics of each hospital area

The Department of Critical Care Medicine is a comprehensive ICU open to all departments in the hospital. The critical care team has rich clinical experience in the treatment of acute and critical illnesses.

For a long time, it has been able to give full play to its mainstay role in the prevention and treatment of major diseases (including COVID-19) and difficult diseases in Beijing.

The subject leader, Professor Li Wenxiong, is a well-known expert in critical care in China.

The department relies on the hospital's layout of one hospital and three locations. It has critical care medicine wards in the hospital headquarters (Dongdaqiao Campus), Changying Campus (Eastern District), and Shijingshan Campus (Western District), and implements unified management.

Currently, there are a total of 68 beds, including: 20 beds in the hospital headquarters (2 wards), 40 beds (2 wards) in Changying Campus, and 8 beds (1 ward) in Shijingshan Campus.

The layout is based on the internationally advanced ICU building model, focusing on the balanced development of the subspecialties of internal medicine and surgical critical care, and is equipped with advanced monitoring and treatment equipment.

The features and advantages of the hospital include: ① Guarantee and support for difficult and major surgeries, especially liver transplantation, combined pancreaticoduodenectomy, complex spinal deformity correction, cardiac bypass/valve replacement, etc.

②Emergency treatment for patients with various types of polytrauma, massive gastrointestinal bleeding, severe craniocerebral injury, and acute abdomen.

③Long-term organ support for severe infection, severe AKI, severe liver failure, severe pancreatitis, myasthenia gravis, etc.

④ Advanced life support for hospitalized patients with severe complications (myocardial infarction, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, pulmonary embolism, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, etc.).

The features and advantages of Changying Campus include: ① Guarantee and support for difficult and major surgeries, such as perioperative treatment for combined pancreaticoduodenectomy and liver transplantation;

Perioperative management of severe craniocerebral injuries, various benign and malignant intracranial tumors, and interventional treatment of cerebrovascular diseases;

Perioperative recovery from neurospinal electrical stimulation.

②Treatment of various critically ill medical patients, such as: perioperative management of coronary intervention for complex coronary lesions, including chronic complete obstructive pulmonary disease (CTO), treatment of severe infections in immunosuppressed patients, multimodal blood purification treatment of patients with immune-inflammatory storm, perioperative monitoring of complex digestive endoscopy, etc.

③Treatment of critically ill pregnant women, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, polytrauma, poisoning and other emergencies.

The features and advantages of Shijingshan Campus include: ① Guarantee and support for difficult and major surgeries, especially "perioperative integrated" treatment for patients with complex and difficult hernia and abdominal wall surgeries, severe craniocerebral injuries and cerebrovascular disease intervention, liver radiofrequency and microwave ablation, etc.
