Emergency Department

The Emergency Department (Department of Emergency Medicine) of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University was established in 1986. It is one of the earliest emergency departments in the country to establish an independent system.

After nearly 40 years of accumulation, it has developed and grown with the efforts of three generations of emergency medicine professionals, and has become a well-known emergency medicine discipline in China. In recent years, it has continued to strengthen the discipline system and connotation construction, and has ranked second in the scientific and technological value of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences for five consecutive years.

In May 2023, the Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Emergency Medicine Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Center") was established on the basis of the existing emergency department, opening a new chapter in the rapid development of the emergency medicine profession!

The Emergency Medicine Center of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital consists of three campuses, two medical consortiums and two collaborative development departments.

The three campuses are the main campus, Changying campus and Shijingshan campus;

Two close medical alliances with homogeneous diagnosis and treatment and two collaborative development departments.

The structure of the Emergency Medicine Center is scientific and reasonable, consisting of the Clinical Medicine Department of the Emergency Medicine Center, the Education and Training Department of the Emergency Medicine Center, the Scientific Research Transformation Department of the Emergency Medicine Center, and the Functional Management Department of the Emergency Medicine Center.

The Emergency Medicine Center Office is set up under the director of the center to connect the previous and the next, promote the orderly operation of the four departments of the center (covering medical care, teaching, scientific research and management) and improve efficiency.

The center covers an area of ​​about 20,000 square meters and has a complete treatment layout, including emergency triage, emergency flow (including medical, surgical and related specialties), emergency rescue room, emergency care unit, emergency care unit, emergency comprehensive ward, temporary monitoring and observation ward, and also manages the fever clinic and gastrointestinal clinic of the regular campus.

There are 260 beds (including 67 in the emergency room, 70 in the emergency care unit, 44 in the EICU, and the rest are monitoring and observation beds).

It treats more than 500,000 patients every year and plays a mainstay role especially in major public health events.

The teaching system of the Emergency Medicine Center is the chairman unit of the Department of Emergency Medicine of Capital Medical University, leading the 34 member units (emergency departments) of the department to develop together.

It is the master's and doctoral training center and postdoctoral workstation of Capital Medical University, cultivating a large number of outstanding talents for the country's emergency medicine career.

At the same time, it is the director of the Emergency Professional Committee for the Standardized Training of Resident Physicians in Beijing and the director of the National Key Base for the Standardized Training of Emergency Physicians for Resident Physicians (the first standardized training base for emergency resident physicians in Beijing). It also undertakes teaching tasks such as the teaching and research section for undergraduates of the Third Clinical School of Medicine of Capital Medical University (including 7-year schooling), undergraduates of the International College, and undergraduate nursing students.

The Emergency Medicine Center has a complete scientific research, innovation and transformation system.

Focus on the construction of emergency medicine clinical diagnosis and treatment center, emergency medicine digital and network center and emergency medicine basic research center system!

It currently has independent research institutions such as the Beijing Key Laboratory of Cardiopulmonary and Cerebral Resuscitation, the National Institute of Health and Medical Clinical Big Data Critical Care Clinical Big Data Center, and the Capital Medical University Acute Infectious Diseases Clinical Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center.

It has an excellent scientific research team, including 1 national outstanding youth, 1 outstanding youth, 5 doctoral supervisors, 6 master supervisors, and 12 professors;

The current research projects include National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Project (1 project), General Project (5 projects), Youth Fund (5 projects), National Development and Reform Commission, National Science and Technology Commission, Beijing Natural Science Foundation, Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Beijing Special Development and dozens of other projects, with scientific research funding of tens of millions of yuan.

Published more than 300 SCI papers in Thorax, CritCareMed, Resuscitation, Shock and other magazines;

The clinical medicine specialty of Fudan University ranks among the top five in the country, ranking second in 2017;

The emergency medicine major of the Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences ranked second for five consecutive years (2017-2021) in terms of scientific and technological value.

The Emergency Medicine Center is the unit of the Chinese Medical Emergency Volunteer Corps and the China Volunteer Foundation-Medical Road Has Me Special Fund. It also leads the Emergency Medicine Capacity Building Center of the Chinese Medical Association, the County Critical Care Capacity Improvement Project of the National Health Commission, the commissioned construction unit of the Emergency Medicine Collaborative Development Center of the Beijing Municipal Medical Administration Center (22 emergency departments of Beijing hospitals), the Chinese Medical Association, the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Beijing Medical Association Science Popularization Branch Chairman and President Unit, and the Chinese Research Hospital Emergency Care Professional Committee Chairman Unit.

Introduction to Shijingshan:

The Emergency Department of the West Hospital has an independent emergency building and a fully functional and supporting operation system, providing 24/7 services, including the emergency rescue room, emergency intensive care unit, emergency observation and complete emergency auxiliary diagnosis departments. He has accumulated rich experience in the treatment fields of trauma, multiple organ failure, sepsis and disaster rescue, and has developed bedside blood purification technology, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, POCT, intravenous thrombolysis for acute cerebral infarction, minimally invasive intracranial hematoma aspiration and other technologies.

As a resident unit of the National Secondary Discipline - Disaster Relief Branch of the Chinese Medical Rescue Association, we will use the association as an opportunity to build a broader platform for academic exchanges and cooperation, so that the emergency medicine of the West Hospital will go out of the region, move towards the country, and integrate with international standards. It will continue to introduce advanced emergency medical technology and service concepts at home and abroad, fully embody the emergency medicine service concept of "urgent, fast, smooth, comprehensive and precise", and strive to realize the "lifeboat on the Fifth Ring Road" as soon as possible!

Features of Shijingshan Department:

Stroke green channel: This treatment is an internationally recognized, fast and effective treatment plan implemented within 3-6 hours of acute cerebral infarction. It can significantly improve the patient's disability rate and reduce mortality.

The emergency department adheres to the tenet of "time is life, time is brain". After patients arrive at the emergency department, they receive thrombolytic treatment within one hour to ensure the smooth flow of the "7D" emergency system.

Bedside blood purification technology: This new technology is mainly developed for poisoning, renal failure, heart failure, multiple organ failure, sepsis, etc., bringing the level of treatment of critically ill patients to a new level.

Bronchoscopy technology: The development of this technology has enabled emergency departments to make great progress in airway management and diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases.

Disaster Medical Rescue: Since the emergency department became the resident unit of the Disaster Rescue Branch of the Chinese Medical Rescue Association in 2015, it has established a U.S. disaster life support training base and carried out reforms and innovations in training formats, which have achieved good response across the country.

It has also enabled the department to develop rapidly in the discipline construction of disaster medicine.
