The Department of Interventional Medicine at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University was founded in 1993 by Professor Zhai Renyou, a famous interventional radiology expert.

Professor Zhai Renyou has served as deputy leader of the interventional group and doctoral supervisor of the Radiology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and is well-known in the interventional community.

With an early start and a high starting point, Chaoyang Interventional Department has always been among the head interventional departments in Beijing and surrounding areas.

After more than 30 years, under the leadership of two generations of academic leaders, Professor Zhai Renyou and Professor Gao Kun, the Chaoyang Interventional Department now has three areas in one hospital, with 29 beds and a medical technical team of 23 people, including 12 doctors, 7 doctors, 5 masters, 3 chief physicians, 1 deputy chief physician, 5 attending physicians, and 3 residents;

After years of development, the department has formed a disciplinary highland in the interventional treatment of biliary tract diseases and pulmonary hypertension, and is currently in a leading position in the country.

As for the biliary tract, it has established a complete set of diagnosis and treatment plans including diagnosis, drainage, local and systemic treatment of biliary tumors, and stone expulsion treatment for cholelithiasis. It treats more than 500 cases of biliary tract diseases annually. Local radioactive particle cartridge stent implantation ranks first in the treatment of hilar cholangiocarcinoma in North China. It also provides a training base for biliary interventional colleagues.

In terms of pulmonary artery intervention, relying on the respiratory and pulmonary vascular team of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, it provides interventional diagnosis and treatment for patients with pulmonary vascular diseases, especially chronic vascular pulmonary hypertension, and has achieved good therapeutic results.

It actively develops in the areas of vascular intervention (arterial embolization) and CT-guided non-vascular intervention (biopsy and ablation) for solid tumors, such as liver cancer and lung cancer, actively supports emergency and postoperative bleeding, continues to work hard in the treatment of vascular diseases, and improves disciplines in many aspects and fields to contribute to the strength of the department.

At present, doctors in the department gather talents with multi-professional backgrounds such as radiology, ultrasound, surgery, internal medicine, etc., with zero communication barriers, collaborative development, and mutual promotion.

The cath lab is equipped with a DSA angiography machine, a large-diameter interventional CT machine and an ultrasound machine. Multiple imaging modes can be used to guide interventional treatment. The disease-oriented and selective use can achieve the coordination of multiple imaging modes, exploit strengths and avoid weaknesses, and bring maximum treatment benefits to patients.

Currently, CT-guided tumor biopsy meets the needs of all departments in the hospital, and the workload exceeds 800 cases per year;

Interventional Department of Changying Campus

The Interventional Department of the East Campus of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University will start treating patients at the same time as the East Campus in August 2023. Doctors with various professional titles will be recruited from the Interventional Department of the headquarters. It has now grown into a comprehensive interventional diagnosis and treatment platform integrating medicine, teaching, and research.

The East Campus currently performs 1,000 interventional surgeries per year, has a total of 5 beds in the department, and treats more than 280 patients annually.

With minimally invasive technology as the core, it covers diseases in many fields such as blood vessels, tumors, and digestive tract.

There is currently 1 chief physician, 1 senior attending physician, 1 attending physician, and 1 resident physician. At the same time, we rely on the excellent nursing team in the respiratory ward.

As an expert in pulmonary vascular interventional therapy, Chief Physician Wang Jianfeng has focused on pulmonary vascular interventional therapy for many years, especially in the field of interventional therapy for diseases such as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, Takayasu arteritis, pulmonary vascular malformations, and pulmonary vein stenosis. He is also able to perform percutaneous pulmonary artery denervation radiofrequency ablation (PADN) for patients with severe pulmonary hypertension who have failed long-term drug treatment. He has published many outstanding scientific research papers at home and abroad, and participated in a number of national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects.

At the same time, Director Wang Jianfeng led the interventional team to complete a large amount of work in the field of tumor intervention, especially in the interventional treatment of liver cancer, lung cancer and cholangiocarcinoma, and has rich experience in interventional tumor treatment.

In terms of vascular intervention, for patients with deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs, especially those with pulmonary embolism, we can simultaneously perform comprehensive interventional treatment of thrombectomy, thrombolysis, anticoagulation and inferior vena cava filter placement in the pulmonary artery and deep veins of the lower limbs. At the same time, we have rich experience in the interventional treatment of peripheral artery stenosis.

In terms of interventional treatment of emergency severe diseases, it can quickly handle acute bleeding diseases (gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer bleeding, esophageal and gastric variceal bleeding, hemoptysis, etc.), complex trauma bleeding (liver rupture bleeding, spleen rupture bleeding, kidney rupture bleeding, etc.) and other emergency and critical diseases.

The cath lab in the east hospital area is equipped with 3 of the latest Philips digital subtraction angiography machines (DSA). It can also make comprehensive use of in-hospital ultrasound, CT and other imaging equipment, combined with the cath lab with clear functional divisions and the ward conditions of the intelligent management system, to provide strong guarantee for interventional treatment.

At the same time, the interventional department can cooperate with more than 85% of the departments in the hospital to conduct complex case consultations, formulate personalized treatment plans, and provide assistance to various departments in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult cases.

2. In view of the fact that the per capita non-drug and non-consumable output value is 300,000 yuan lower than the average of the surgical system, the per-bed non-drug and non-consumable output value is 260,000 yuan higher, and the waiting time for patients to be admitted is relatively long, try to arrange day surgeries in day wards to increase the bed turnover rate and staff utilization rate.

Strengthen outpatient treatment and surgery: For example, cooperate with the Department of Endocrinology to actively carry out puncture biopsy and ablation treatment of thyroid nodules.
