The department currently has 50 beds and 10 dedicated wards for liver transplantation. It treats 1,600 patients and performs 1,200 surgeries annually, 95% of which are medium and large surgeries. It completes about 100 pancreaticoduodenectomy surgeries every year. It has proposed a pancreatic cancer peaking plan and a pancreatic cancer blood test. The Chaoyang classification of duct invasion has significantly increased the resection rate of pancreatic cancer to more than 90%. The exploration of rapid postoperative recovery and green comprehensive treatment models for pancreatic cancer has made the center one of the most advanced in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer at home and abroad, and the overall survival rate after pancreatic cancer surgery has been significantly improved.

The department is a key discipline in Beijing, a doctoral program under the National Education Commission, and a liver transplant center in Beijing. It completes 100-150 liver transplants every year, and has completed more than 1,500 cases in total. It is still alive.

The oldest transplant recipient in Beijing who successfully completed surgery at our center reached 80 years old.

The perioperative survival rate of liver transplantation for critical liver disease has reached the most advanced international level. After transplantation, immune drug management is accurately adjusted based on gene expression and cell status, and immune status scores and other indicators are monitored in real time. The department center's personalized immune drug regulation after surgery has reached the most advanced international level, and the quality of life of long-term surviving transplant patients is extremely high.

The Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Spleen Surgery of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital is responsible for the clinical teaching tasks of this specialty, including large-course teaching in 5-year, 7-year, 8-year and international classes, as well as clinical internship and internship teaching.

The department is a required rotation department for the standardized training of surgical residents in Beijing, and has trained a large number of resident doctors who meet the requirements for the hospital and hospitals at all levels in Beijing.

At the same time, a large number of trainee doctors come to the department every year for further studies. The main training contents include comprehensive treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignant tumors, laparoscopic surgery techniques and liver transplantation. They have played a good role in promoting the discipline development of the sister hospital and greatly improved the radiation capabilities of the department and the hospital.

The Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and Spleen Surgery of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital undertakes more than 30 large-scale national scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation and the Beijing Natural Science Foundation.

The department publishes dozens of papers in SCI journals and core journals every year.

As editor-in-chief (translator) and deputy editor-in-chief (translator), he has written (compiled) several professional monographs.

The papers have won many awards from domestic professional associations. Every year, the department has many people participating in domestic and foreign academic conferences at all levels. It actively participates in domestic and foreign academic activities through conference speeches, exhibition boards and paper exchanges, and brings advanced domestic and foreign medical concepts and diagnosis and treatment technologies back to the department, and has successively applied them in clinical practice, achieving good results.

Department features

1. Liver transplantation is leading in China

Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University is a hospital approved for liver transplantation by the Ministry of Health and is home to the Beijing Organ Transplantation Center. It is the only transplantation center in China that can simultaneously perform liver, heart, kidney, lung, small intestine, pancreas and other large organ transplants. The liver transplantation department of the Beijing Organ Transplantation Center is located in the department.

So far, the department has completed more than 1,500 cases of liver transplantation. Almost all liver transplantation procedures can be performed, from classic liver transplantation to humpback liver transplantation, from living donor liver transplantation to split liver transplantation. The number of surgical cases and patient survival rate are among the best in the country.

We have our own unique treatment methods and insights in the prevention and treatment of rejection after liver transplantation, the recovery of transplanted liver function, the maintenance of important organ functions such as kidneys, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, etc., the prevention of infection, and long-term follow-up treatment after discharge.

It is now a hospital approved for liver transplantation and a designated hospital for medical insurance reimbursement of immunosuppressants.

The department is the chairman unit of the Liver Transplantation Branch of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Care and is responsible for launching treatment standards and consensus on liver transplantation for patients with critical liver disease, which improves the success rate of surgery for critically ill patients.

The department is launching an immune status monitoring system. Through the three-way joint adjustment of immune status assessment, combined drug concentration and transplanted liver function, postoperative drug management can be more accurately and individualized, significantly reducing the possibility of drug toxicity and opportunistic infections.

Give transplant patients a better quality of life.

2. Comprehensive treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignant tumors

In the treatment of malignant tumors of the hepatobiliary and pancreatic systems, based on traditional surgical techniques, combined with liver transplantation and vascular technology, especially for patients with advanced tumor stages, combined with vascular resection and allogeneic vascular reconstruction, the rate of radical tumor resection can be significantly improved.

On this basis, we proposed a Chaoyang classification system for vascular invasion of pancreatic cancer, which significantly increased the resection rate of pancreatic cancer to more than 90%. Combined with the rapid recovery system after pancreatic cancer surgery and the postoperative green comprehensive treatment model, combined with the postoperative individualized multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment system, combined with immune status detection and immunotherapy technology, our long-term survival rate after pancreatic cancer surgery has been significantly improved, and survival treatment is excellent.

Almost all complex surgeries on the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen can be successfully completed by the department.

Every year, the department performs a large number of complex liver resection surgeries such as middle lobe, caudal lobe, three lobes, and hemihepatectomies, pancreaticoduodenectomy, body and tail resection of the pancreas, etc. It also performs a large number of radical resections of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, combined hepatopancreas-duodenal malignant tumor resections, local resections of duodenal papilla tumors, liver transplantation with combined organ resection, and bile duct ductoplasty after complex biliary tract surgery.

Hundreds of cases of complex and advanced malignant tumors are treated every year.

For malignant tumors that cannot be surgically removed, they will enter the Comprehensive Cancer Treatment Center of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University. This center is a comprehensive treatment system with hepatobiliary, pancreatic and spleen surgery as the core system and a comprehensive treatment system based on tumor immunity, tumor targeting, tumor intervention, tumor chemotherapy, gastroenterology and radiotherapy. It provides multi-level and multi-step comprehensive treatment for tumor patients, significantly extending the patient's survival time and improving the patient's quality of life.

3. Laparoscopic surgical techniques

The General Surgery Department of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University began to perform laparoscopic surgery in 1998 (before the establishment of the Department of Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic, and Spleen Surgery). At that time, the main surgical procedure was laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Since the establishment of the department in 2004, the laparoscopic surgery technology for hepatobiliary, pancreatic and spleen diseases has developed by leaps and bounds.

In addition to laparoscopic cholecystectomy, bile duct exploration, liver cyst fenestration, and laparoscopic exploration that are currently commonly performed in major hospitals.

The department now routinely performs laparoscopic segmental, lobular and hemihepatectomy, laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (with/without spleen preservation), internal drainage of pancreatic pseudocyst, laparoscopic splenectomy and partial splenectomy, laparoscopic choledochal cyst resection + cholangiojejunostomy, laparoscopic gastrojejunostomy, and laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy.

For benign diseases, laparoscopic treatment shows great advantages and is one of the featured technologies of our department.
