The Beijing City Eye Institute, affiliated with the Beijing Gen-In Hospital of the Capital Medical University, founded in 1959, is based on the Beijing Gen-In Hospital of the Capital Medical University and is the first eye specialist institute in the country to combine clinical and basic theoretical research; Socially oriented, serving the general public, committed to improving the quality of life for patients with visual impairments, always adhering to the concept of developmental heritage and innovation, is the Institute's consistent service mission and developmental vision. The history of all aspects of eye research in Beijing: as early as the 1950s, Professor Zhefeifan of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products collaborated with Professor Zhang Xiaou of the Beijing Institute of Eye Research, successfully isolated the first international strain of the eyelashes, solved a long-held problem of the world's eyelashes, and became one of the top ten contributors to the world science for 1957. Subsequently, the national eyelash investigation and eyelash prevention work led by Professor Zhang Xiaojong achieved outstanding results, for which Prof. Fyefan and Prof. Zhang Xiaojong were awarded the International Gold Medal by the World Health Organization.
