Thoracic Surgery Department
Beijing Tongren Hospital, Affiliated to Capital Medical University
The Thoracic Surgery Department of Beijing Tongren Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University has been in development for more than 60 years. It can carry out various difficult conventional thoracic surgeries and various minimally invasive thoracic surgeries and has strong technical force.
In the past 10 years, thoracoscopy, mediastinoscopy and laparoscopic surgery technology have made huge leaps.
Through exchanges with Professor Krasna, a famous thoracic surgeon at the University of Maryland, and Professor D’Amico, the chairman of Duke University and the American Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, our thoracoscopic surgery technology has developed rapidly and quickly moved closer to the international advanced ranks.
At present, minimally invasive surgery to treat chest diseases has become a new professional feature of the department.
Lung cancer, esophageal cancer, myasthenia gravis, mediastinal tumors, hiatal hernia, achalasia and other esophageal functional diseases can all be successfully treated with laparoscopic surgery technology.
Among them, the number of cases of thoracoscopic treatment of myasthenia gravis and mediastinal tumors ranks first in the country.
Thoracoscopic lobectomy, combined thoracoscopic and laparoscopic radical esophageal cancer treatment, thoracoscopic esophageal benign tumor resection, laparoscopic treatment of hiatal hernia, achalasia, and sympathotomy for hyperhidrosis of the hands are among the best in the country.
In 2012, we independently developed laparoscopic esophageal inversion and extraction surgery to treat cervical, upper thoracic esophageal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer.
In 2013, the first 3D laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair was completed, which made the department make a new leap in the minimally invasive surgical treatment of benign esophageal diseases.
In 2018, we cooperated with the Department of Head and Neck Surgery to perform minimally invasive surgery to remove pulmonary metastases from adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) in the head and neck, which greatly improved the survival time and long-term prognosis of ACC patients who were insensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The number of surgeries ranked first in the country.
Department features
(1) The number of minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgeries for the treatment of myasthenia gravis and mediastinal tumors exceeds 500 per year, ranking first in the country in the past 10 years.
(2) Minimally invasive surgery to remove pulmonary metastases from adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the head and neck has greatly improved the survival and long-term prognosis of ACC patients who are insensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The number of surgeries ranks first in the country.
(3) Diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of benign esophageal diseases—gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernia, and achalasia, including laparoscopic surgery to treat hiatal hernia and achalasia.
(4) Thoracoscopic lobectomy and mediastinal lymph node dissection in the treatment of lung cancer.
(5) Thoracic and laparoscopic combined radical treatment of esophageal cancer;
Laparoscopic esophageal inversion and extraction surgery is used to treat cervical, upper thoracic esophageal cancer and hypopharyngeal cancer.
