The Spinal Spinal Area (Spinal Neurosurgery) was established in 1962 and is one of the earliest spinal and spinal subspecialties of neurosurgery in the country.

The department currently has 6 chief physicians, 2 deputy chief physicians, 3 attending and resident physicians, and the annual operation volume exceeds 1,200.

The scope of subspecialty diagnosis and treatment is comprehensive. The main scope of diagnosis and treatment includes:

① Spinal cord and spinal nerve tumors, such as spinal ependymomas, schwannomas, meningiomas, spinal cord teratomas, metastases, etc., especially spinal glioma surgery and individualized comprehensive treatment based on genotyping;

② Neural tube malformation diseases, such as tethered cord syndrome, atlantoaxial dislocation, sacral canal cyst, cerebellar subtonsillar hernia, syringomyelia, etc.;

③ Minimally invasive surgical treatment for spinal degenerative diseases, cervical disc herniation, lumbar spinal stenosis, etc.;

④Spinal vascular diseases, such as spinal cavernous hemangioma, spinal dural arteriovenous fistula, arteriovenous malformation, etc.;

⑤ Neuromodulation treatment of spinal cord functional diseases, such as intractable spinal pain, secondary dystonia, neurogenic bladder (rectum), etc.;

In addition, clinical trials of some new therapies are also carried out, such as functional reconstruction of spinal cord injuries.

At the same time, the department undertakes Tiantan's responsibility and mission as the "National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases" and the "National Quality Control Center for Neurological Diseases", focusing on innovative research on new concepts and new technologies related to spinal cord diseases. It has strong scientific research and technical strength. It currently has 4 doctoral supervisors and 4 master's supervisors. It is responsible for a number of national, provincial and ministerial-level projects. In the past ten years, it has published more than 50 SCI-indexed papers, with a cumulative impact factor of more than 300 points.
