Ultrasound Department

Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences

The Ultrasound Department of Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, currently has deputy director Zhu Zhenhui (in charge of the work) and deputy directors Pang Kunjing, Duan Fujian and Meng Hong. It was founded in 1975 and is the earliest independent ultrasound imaging department in my country.

After more than 30 years of development, there are currently 33 color ultrasound diagnostic machines and 21 examination rooms.

It can meet the needs of transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, intraoperative ultrasound, bedside and emergency ultrasound, vascular, abdominal and special examinations.

There are currently 48 medical workers, including 1 chief physician, 9 deputy chief physicians, and 11 attending physicians.

The Ultrasound Department is responsible for the ultrasonic examination of patients in outpatient clinics and wards. It examines an average of about 900 patients from all over the country every day, and the annual ultrasound examination reaches 220,000 times.

In addition, it also undertakes consultation tasks for difficult echocardiographic diseases in this city and across the country.

Since Fuwai Hospital is the national cardiovascular disease prevention and research center, various common and rare heart disease cases can be seen here.

It was the first in China to use M-mode echocardiography technology to diagnose cardiac myxoma, which was later confirmed by surgery.

Since its establishment, the department has maintained the record of being the largest group in the country using echocardiography to diagnose cardiac tumors before surgery. This record is also rare abroad.

Cases such as tetralogy of Fallot and endocardial cushion defects can be seen almost every day in the ultrasound department;

Double outlet of the right ventricle, transposition of the great arteries, malformed pulmonary venous drainage, etc. are often encountered.

Since its inception, the Ultrasound Department has won 16 scientific and technological achievements at the ministerial level and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences level;

He has successively undertaken research work on national “Seventh Five-Year Plan”, “Eighth Five-Year Plan”, “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” and other projects.

In recent years, he has undertaken a project from the Capital Medical Development Research Fund: Research on the role of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography in guiding surgical operations for heart valve disease;

Beijing Science and Technology Project One: Research on the clinical application of quantitative technology of intracardiac blood flow model;

National Natural Science Foundation of China: Experimental study on the evaluation of mitral regurgitation volume by transesophageal real-time three-dimensional echocardiography.

Currently, there are four National Natural Science Foundation projects under research: experimental research on the evaluation of aortic valve regurgitation volume by color real-time three-dimensional echocardiography;

A preliminary study on establishing an early diagnosis model for diastolic heart failure using left atrial ultrasound indicators combined with ventricular long-axis strain;

Strengthen atorvastatin to promote myocardial SCF secretion and chemoattract c-kit+ cardiac stem cells to target homing and repair infarcted myocardium and study its mechanism;

Baseline survey on the health status and basic physiological parameters of Chinese citizens;

Undertake research work on national “12th Five-Year Plan” projects.

The following items are also studied (funded by central-level public welfare scientific research institutes): comprehensive indicators to improve the predictive value of ultrasound for cardiac resynchronization therapy;

Experimental study on rosuvastatin improving the survival of bone marrow stem cells induced by hypoxic-ischemic environment;

Clinical research on using ultrasound speckle tracking imaging technology to evaluate the prognosis of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

As a department under the highest academic institution in the field of cardiovascular disease in the country, the center also undertakes the task of training professional and technical personnel for all parts of the country.

There are 6 fixed training sessions for training doctors every year, and about 70 people are trained throughout the year.

It has trained a total of 51 graduate students, including 32 doctoral students and 19 master's students.

A total of more than 30 ultrasound classes and seminars in various forms have been held.

So far, more than 1,500 ultrasound professionals from all over the country have been trained.

It is the seat of the Cardiovascular Society of the Chinese Society of Ultrasound Medical Engineering. Professor Liu Hanying, the founding father of the Department of Ultrasound, is the first chairman of the society.

The second chairman of the board is Professor Yang Huanyi.

The center sends personnel to participate in international and domestic conferences every year to capture domestic and foreign research trends and research hotspots, so as to keep the scientific research of the Ultrasound Imaging Center always developing in step with the world.
