Vascular Center
Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, currently has director Shu Chang, and deputy directors Yu Cuntao and Jiang Xiongjing.
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is one of the centers with distinctive professional features and high disciplinary reputation in the hospital.
Since it was the first to carry out aortic surgery in China in 1958, after several generations of hard exploration and unremitting pursuit, the Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital has accumulated rich clinical experience in related professional fields, and has trained batches of well-known experts and technical backbones in the field of aortic surgery in China.
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital has become the largest aortic surgery and aortic endovascular minimally invasive treatment center in the country and the world, and has reached the international advanced level in terms of quantity and quality of surgeries.
In 2015, Fuwai Hospital introduced several well-known international and domestic vascular surgery experts to further strengthen its technical strength in the field of surgery, endovascular and hybrid treatment of aortic diseases. At the same time, Fuwai Hospital comprehensively carries out endovascular and surgical operations for various peripheral vascular diseases, including lower extremity vascular diseases, carotid artery diseases, and visceral vascular diseases.
So far, the Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital has basically achieved "no blind spots in diagnosis and treatment" and "no technical shortcomings" in the fields of heart, aorta and peripheral blood vessels, and is making steady progress towards the goal of building a top international vascular surgery center.
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital currently has 9 chief physicians, 10 deputy chief physicians, several attending physicians and resident physicians, about 80% of whom have doctoral degrees.
The center has opened 3 wards in the new inpatient building with advanced facilities in Fuwai Hospital, with 135 general ward beds, 20 postoperative recovery room beds, and 3 of the world's most advanced cardiovascular hybrid operating rooms. It has strong technical force and internationally advanced hardware conditions, and can carry out various Various cardiovascular surgeries such as aortic disease, peripheral vascular disease, congenital heart disease, valvular heart disease, coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, etc., especially in traditional surgery and intracavitary minimally invasive and hybrid surgical treatment of aortic disease, are at the leading domestic and internationally advanced levels.
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital has gradually explored and established a set of clinical diagnosis and treatment models and processes in view of the high incidence of hypertension and low satisfaction rate of control in my country, as well as the characteristics of aortic diseases such as high incidence and severe illness. With the support of the hospital, the Vascular Surgery Center has established a "green channel" for aortic patients, providing many practical and effective solutions for patients to achieve convenient medical treatment, timely medical treatment, and ensure high-quality medical services.
In terms of clinical treatment of aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections, we continue to consolidate and develop various previously accepted diagnosis and treatment technologies, and also apply many new clinical technologies that are critical to improving surgical results, significantly reducing the incidence and mortality of surgical complications, and reducing patient trauma and economic burden. The large vessel hybrid surgery technology carried out from 2009 to the present has made new breakthroughs in the treatment of critical aortic lesions.
Through the joint efforts of medical staff at all levels in the Vascular Surgery Center and the anesthesia and extracorporeal circulation departments, the success rate of aortic surgery in Fuwai Hospital has reached or exceeded the international level.
The Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital not only maintains a leading position in clinical work, but also attaches great importance to scientific research. A series of scientific research results continue to bring good news to the majority of patients.
In 1994, he began research on brain protection, spinal cord protection and blood protection during cardiovascular surgery.
Surgery involving the aortic arch was treated using "cannulation through the right axillary artery, extracorporeal circulation (moderate hypothermia) and selective cerebral perfusion technology".
Applying the "normal temperature occlusion blood pump method whole blood recovery arterial input technology" in the surgery of the descending thoracic aorta and abdominal aorta, we pioneered a simpler, safer and more effective spinal cord protection method.
In recent years, the center has received funding from many science and technology funds such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Doctoral Program Fund for Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, the Special Fund for Clinical Key Subjects of the Ministry of Health, and the "Tenth Five-Year Plan Medical and Health Fund". It has also won many science and technology awards at all levels, including the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Chinese Medical Association's Science and Technology Progress Award, and the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.
Doctors at all levels of the Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital have attended and chaired large-scale international cardiovascular academic conferences in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia for many times, gave academic reports, and performed surgical demonstrations. They have also worked, visited, and given lectures as guest professors and visiting scholars in the world's top cardiovascular surgery centers such as Yale University, Stanford University, Massachusetts General Hospital, Cleveland Heart Center, Texas Medical Center, New York University, and Berlin Heart Center in Germany, sharing the most advanced medical concepts, work achievements, and scientific research results with the world.
According to the needs of the patient's condition, the Vascular Surgery Center of Fuwai Hospital can use traditional surgery, minimally invasive intracavitary interventional surgery or hybrid surgery to treat various types of heart, aorta and peripheral vascular diseases.
In addition to various routine cardiac surgeries, the department’s strong technical directions include:
1. Aortic diseases: aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, aortic ulcer, aortic intramural hematoma, aortic pseudoaneurysm, aortic straddling thrombus, Takayasu arteritis, etc.
2. Limb vascular diseases: lower limb arteriosclerosis and occlusion, vasculitis, iliac artery aneurysm, femoropopliteal artery aneurysm, subclavian artery aneurysm, subclavian artery stenosis, axillary artery stenosis, brachial artery stenosis, lower limb varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, etc.
3. Neck vascular diseases: carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery aneurysm, carotid body tumor, jugular vein aneurysm, vertebral artery stenosis, etc.
4. Abdominal visceral vascular diseases: celiac artery stenosis, splenic artery aneurysm, superior mesenteric artery aneurysm/stenosis, renal artery aneurysm/stenosis, etc.
