Pathology Department

Department development history: The Pathology Department of China-Japan Hospital was established in 1984 and has developed into an important department integrating medical teaching and research. The Department of Pathology is responsible for routine pathological diagnosis in the hospital, rapid pathological diagnosis during surgery, cytological diagnosis and molecular pathology diagnosis, etc., and is also responsible for remote pathology consultation tasks between the National Health Commission and the hospital. In 2011, it became the training base for pathology residents in Beijing. In 2014, it became the main department of the Beijing Key Laboratory for Prevention and Treatment of Allergic Diseases. In 2019, the China-Japan Friendship Hospital Pathology Specialty Medical Consortium was established, which currently has more than 40 medical consortium units; it was rated as the Genetic and Molecular Pathology Laboratory of the Precision Medicine Center and the PQCC Demonstration Laboratory. In 2020, it became the leader unit of the lymphatic hematopoietic system, the deputy leader unit of the bone and soft tissue system, and the deputy leader unit of the head and neck system of the Pathology Branch of the Beijing Medical Association. Department staff composition: The director of the department is Zhong Dingrong. The department currently has 1 chief physician, 4 deputy chief physicians, 13 attending physicians, 5 resident physicians, 20 technicians, and 1 researcher. Among them, 17 have doctoral degrees, 9 have master's degrees, and 15 have bachelor's degrees. The first director, Professor Wang Tailing, was awarded the title of “Advanced Individual for Contribution to Women” by the National Health Commission in 1994.He has presided over or participated in a number of major national scientific research projects, and has successively formulated pathological grading and staging standards for chronic hepatitis that are in line with international standards for my country's "Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Plan", as well as pathological diagnostic standards for severe hepatitis, fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease. He has won the first, second and third prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first, second and third prize of the Ministry of Health Science and Technology Progress Award, and the second prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award in recent years, a total of 14 times. The current director, Professor Zhong Dingrong, is concurrently the president of the Beijing Tumor Pathology Precision Diagnosis Research Association, the Standing Committee and Secretary-General of the Pathology Branch of the China Association for the Promotion of International Medical Healthcare, the Chairman of the Pathological Diagnosis Expert Committee of the National Center for Telemedicine and Internet Medicine, the Deputy Chairman of the Lung Cancer Expert Committee, the Standing Committee of the 10th Committee of the Pathology Branch of the Beijing Medical Association, and the Deputy Director of the Pathological Diagnosis Quality Control Center of the Tibet Autonomous Region Medical Association. He is good at pathological diagnosis of various types of tumors, with lymphomas, bone and soft tissue tumors, and central nervous system tumors as sub-specialties. Outpatient and ward settings: The department is equipped with routine technical laboratories, frozen section and diagnostic rooms, immunohistochemistry laboratories, cytology preparation and diagnosis rooms, multi-disciplinary discussion and difficult disease consultation and reading rooms, molecular pathology rooms (2 sets of PCR standard laboratories, a total of 8 rooms), 1 cell culture room, start-up flow cytometry platform, etc.Introduction to diagnosis and treatment equipment: The department has 7 multi-person optical microscopes, 24 binocular optical microscopes, 1 digital slice image scanner, 2 cryostat slicers, 3 automated routine pathology production equipment, 9 microtomes, 4 cell slicers, 1 electron microscope, 8 automatic immunohistochemistry staining machines, 2 special staining machines, 4 real-time quantitative PCR machines, 1 first-generation sequencer, 2 second-generation sequencers, etc. Diagnosis and treatment features of the department: The department performs nearly 90,000 external examinations annually, performs more than 7,000 intraoperative rapid pathological diagnoses, performs more than 12,000 cytological examinations, and performs more than 35,000 molecular tests. Special services: tumor molecular pathology testing and HP molecular typing testing. Professor Zhong Dingrong is good at pathological diagnosis of various types of tumors, with sub-specialties of lymphoma, bone and soft tissue tumors, and central nervous system tumors. Professor Roger specializes in pathological diagnosis and research of neuroendocrine tumors. Professor Tong Jie is good at pathological diagnosis and treatment research in thyroid pathology and skin pathology.Scientific research achievements of the department: Participated in the formulation of my country's "Hepatitis Prevention and Treatment Plan", clarified the pathological grading and staging standards for chronic hepatitis that are in line with international standards, and pathological diagnostic standards for severe hepatitis, fatty liver and alcoholic liver disease. It has won 14 first, second and third prizes for scientific and technological progress at the national level (national, Ministry of Health, province and Beijing). From 2002 to 2006, he completed the pathology sub-topic of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission's major scientific research project "Integrated Research on Clinical Pathology of Chronic Hepatitis" and other scientific research projects, and won the first prize of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission's Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award. The department also undertakes a number of national, provincial, ministerial and hospital-level scientific research projects, including sub-topics of the national 863 major project (molecular classification, diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer), research and application of human stem cells in the treatment of major diseases, etc. Continuously undertakes the national continuing education study program "National Thoracic Tumor Pathological Diagnosis" class. Department teaching: Daily teaching activities are rich and colorful, including weekly theoretical lectures for residents, film reading and teaching, weekly new business learning, twice weekly film readings for difficult cases in the department, and regular invitations to external hospitals and overseas experts to give professional lectures in the department.The Department of Pathology became a standardized training base for residents in Beijing in 2011. It has now graduated 20 first-stage residents and 9 first-stage residents in training. The residency training management is standardized, the requirements are strict, the treatment is generous, and the passing rate of the stage examination is high. Doctors from all over the country are admitted to the department for further study. The scope of further study covers routine pathology, frozen pathology, liver biopsy pathology, cytology and molecular pathology. There is currently 1 tutor for PhD/Master students and 10 postgraduate students. In 1994, he won the title of Advanced Individual in the Ministry of Health's "Women's Contributions". For his outstanding contribution in the field of liver disease pathology, the Liver Disease Branch of the Chinese Medical Association awarded him the Lifetime Contribution Award in September 2014. The Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association awarded the Expert with Outstanding Contribution to China’s Pathology in 2015. In October 2020, the Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association awarded the honorary title of "2020 China Pathology Lifetime Achievement Expert". In December 2020, he won the "Honor of Life" award in the "Bless Life and Honor Doctors" event.From 2020 to 2021, the Pathology Department Party Branch was awarded the Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital, and Professor Zhong Dingrong, Director of the Pathology Department and Branch Secretary, was awarded the Outstanding Party Worker of the Agency directly under the National Health Commission.
