Development history of the department: The Department of General Surgery and Breast and Thyroid Surgery was established in 2010. During this period, it has gone through the development process of the Second Department of General Surgery and the Breast and Thyroid Professional Group of General Surgery. The professional direction has remained unchanged. Department staff composition: The director of the department is Yang Meng. The department currently has 5 chief physicians, 3 deputy chief physicians, and 5 attending physicians. 62% of the department staff have doctorate degrees. Outpatient clinics and wards: The department opens specialized outpatient clinics for breast disease, breast and thyroid surgery, etc. There are a total of 34 inpatient beds.Introduction to diagnosis and treatment equipment: The department has 1 ultrasound machine, 1 stereotaxic horizontal mammography machine, and 2 minimally invasive mammography machines. In Beijing, we are the first unit to use stereotaxic horizontal mammography machines and have a relatively large number of cases. Features of the department’s diagnosis and treatment: 1. Systematic, standardized, individualized treatment and follow-up of breast cancer. The currently routinely performed projects and surgeries include: Mammotome minimally invasive biopsy and surgery of breast lesions, breast microcalcification mammography stereotaxic biopsy technology, modified radical mastectomy/breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer, sentinel lymph node biopsy, first- or second-stage breast cancer reconstruction, rescue treatment of advanced breast cancer, neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer, endocrine therapy and molecular targeted therapy for breast cancer, etc. 2. The department handles various thyroid diseases in a standardized manner, including nodular goiter, thyroid adenoma, hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. Our department has launched laparoscopic scarless neck thyroid surgery earlier, and has completed thousands of cases. 3. About 1,000 cases of total parathyroidectomy or near-total parathyroidectomy without autologous transplantation for secondary hyperparathyroidism have been completed, with remarkable curative effect and high postoperative satisfaction, leading the country. 4. Our department has created the original 2-3cm minimally invasive hernia surgery under local anesthesia, and has successfully completed thousands of minimally invasive inguinal hernia surgeries.Existing specialized disease outpatient clinics: breast disease, breast and thyroid surgery and other specialized disease outpatient clinics. Scientific research achievements of the department: presided over the Beijing Science and Technology Plan Project, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security Project, the China-Japan Friendship Hospital-level project, published dozens of SCI and core journal papers, and was the main translator and publisher of the book "Breast Surgery, Endocrine Surgery and Tumor Surgery Techniques". Teaching situation of the department: Responsible for the training of postgraduate students at China Union Medical College, Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Capital Medical University, and responsible for the clinical teaching and training of undergraduates and seven-year postgraduate students at Peking University School of Medicine and Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Continuously select visiting scholars to study and exchange in medical institutions at home and abroad.
