Department name: Orthopedics. Joint Surgery Department Development History: Orthopedics. Joint Surgery originated from the Department of Orthopedics of Western Medicine of China-Japan Hospital. It was established in 1984. The first director was Professor Zhang Guangbo, a famous orthopedic expert (the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established at the same time). Around 2000, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Traditional Chinese Medicine was merged into the Department of Orthopedics, with Professor Li Zirong as the director. With the development of the discipline, the Department of Orthopedics has gradually formed the professional directions of "Joint Surgery", "Spine Surgery" and "Trauma Orthopedics". In 2009, it was divided into departments, and "Orthopedics and Joint Surgery" was officially established, with Professor Guo Wanshou as the director ("Spine Surgery" and "Trauma Orthopedics" were also established). Since January 2018, the Department of Orthopedics has implemented a departmental system, and the Department of Orthopedics and Joint Surgery has been renamed as the "First Department of Orthopedics". Professor Wang Weiguo serves as the head of the Department of Orthopedics and the First Department of Orthopedics. Starting from July 2021, the Department of Orthopedics Department 1 will be renamed "Orthopedics. Joint Surgery", with Professor Wang Weiguo serving as the director of the department.After nearly 40 years and several generations of hard work, the Department of Joint Surgery has become a well-known professional institution for the diagnosis and treatment of joint diseases at home and abroad. It has made remarkable achievements in the causes and diagnosis and treatment of femoral head necrosis, the causes and step treatment of osteoarthritis, artificial joint replacement and arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery. Together with other orthopedic departments, it owns 1 Ziehm intraoperative CT and 5 Siemens and OEC “C” arm fluoroscopy machines.Features of the department’s diagnosis and treatment: The department’s clinical diagnosis and treatment technology and scientific research level rank among the top in the field of joint surgery in the country, and it is especially good at the treatment of femoral head necrosis, knee osteoarthritis, difficult hip joint diseases, joint sports injuries and other diseases. The department's team of doctoral doctors and professional nursing teams work together to provide patients with diagnostic and treatment services that are in sync with international advanced concepts: 1. Artificial joint replacement surgery: Artificial joint replacement surgery, mainly hip and knee joints, has been carried out for more than 30 years. The deputy chief physician and above experts all have many years of experience in a large number of artificial joint replacement surgeries. The department completes nearly a thousand joint replacement surgeries every year, and has established a complete surgical treatment, perioperative management and accelerated recovery process. The main cases treated are hip and knee osteoarthritis, advanced femoral head necrosis, osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia, etc. Director Guo Wanshou took the lead in carrying out unicondylar knee replacement surgery in China, which solved the unicompartment disease of the knee joint with minimal damage and enabled rapid recovery. As the Oxford unicondylar replacement training base, the Department of Joint Surgery has made important contributions to the promotion of this technology in China.In recent years, direct anterior approach hip replacement surgery and robot-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery, conducted under the leadership of Director Wang Weiguo, have the advantages of precision, minimally invasive, rapid recovery, and low complications, and have become mature and featured technologies. 2. Arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery: Arthroscopic surgery is a conventional minimally invasive treatment method in joint surgery. 300-500 cases of arthroscopic surgery are completed every year, reaching the domestic advanced level. The main diseases of knee arthroscopy are knee cruciate ligament injury and meniscal injury, which are mainly carried out by Yue Debo, Wang Weiguo, Wang Bailiang, Shi Zhencai, Zhang Qidong, Gao Fuqiang, Ding Ran, Ma Jinhui, Huang Cheng, etc. The main diseases treated by shoulder arthroscopy are frozen shoulder, acromion impingement, acute and chronic shoulder joint injuries, rotator cuff and labral lesions, etc. It is mainly carried out by Yue Debo, Wang Bailiang, Ma Jinhui, Ding Ran, and Huang Cheng. Arthroscopic treatment of femoroacetabular impingement and acetabular labral injury has been carried out earlier in China since 2008. The technical level and clinical efficacy are both in the leading position in the country. Wang Weiguo and Ding Ran are responsible for the implementation.3. Femoral head-preserving surgery for femoral head necrosis: Under the leadership of Professor Li Zirong, the clinical diagnosis, treatment and basic research of femoral head necrosis in the Joint Surgery Department have reached the international advanced level and the domestic leading level, and it is a well-known unit for the diagnosis and treatment of osteonecrosis. In 2012, Professor Li Zirong proposed the Chinese-Japanese Hospital Classification of Femoral Head Necrosis (CJFH Classification), and as the leading unit participated in the formulation of China's "Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteonecrosis" and "Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Standards for Femoral Head Necrosis". A series of femoral head-preserving treatment methods for femoral head necrosis have been established for personalized selection, including modified core decompression, autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell implantation, trans-head and neck fenestration lesion removal and compression bone grafting, bone flap transplantation, osteotomy, extracorporeal shock wave therapy, etc. More than 4,000 femoral head-preserving surgeries for femoral head necrosis have been performed. 4. Step-by-step treatment for knee osteoarthritis: Based on the stage and location of knee osteoarthritis and the patient’s individual conditions, a step-by-step treatment plan is formulated from drug treatment, injection treatment, arthroscopic minimally invasive treatment, osteotomy surgery, partial joint replacement and total knee replacement to achieve personalized and precise treatment for different patients.5. Hip and knee osteotomy: Proximal femoral osteotomy to treat femoral head necrosis, acetabular osteotomy to treat hip dysplasia, proximal tibial osteotomy to treat knee osteoarthritis, etc. were carried out earlier in China. In particular, high tibial osteotomy is used to treat early osteoarthritis of the knee joint. A large number of cases and rich clinical experience have been accumulated. 6.
