Dermatology Department

Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University

The Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, was established in 1984 along with the founding of Beijing Anzhen Hospital. With the hospital's development, the department has gradually expanded. Currently, there are 10 physicians and 3 nurses, totaling 13 medical staff. The 10 physicians include 1 chief physician, 4 associate chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, and 1 resident physician; 4 hold doctoral degrees, and 2 hold master's degrees. The 3 nurses include 2 supervising nurses and 1 nurse.
In recent years, with the leapfrog development of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, the Department of Dermatology and Venereology has attracted more patients, with outpatient visits increasing year by year from fewer than 10,000 visits per year at the hospital's inception to nearly 100,000 visits per year currently.
After years of development, all physicians in the department have achieved a high level of diagnosis and treatment for common skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases. The department has developed its own characteristics in the treatment of refractory skin diseases such as psoriasis, allergic diseases like atopic dermatitis, infectious diseases such as herpes zoster, sexually transmitted diseases like condyloma acuminatum, and disfiguring skin diseases such as acne. In collaboration with the departments of cardiology and cardiac surgery, the department has formed a hospital-specific feature in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular syphilis.
In 2021, keeping pace with disciplinary advancements, the dermatology department established several specialized clinics for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, foot and nail diseases, acne, hair loss, and other conditions, developing departmental characteristics in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple diseases. Currently, the department is a demonstration unit for skin imaging of the National Telemedicine and Internet Medicine Center, a member of the Hair Medical Alliance of China-Japan Friendship Hospital, and a research base for eczema, dermatitis, and allergy in China.
The Department of Dermatology and Venereology consistently adheres to the hospital's philosophy of 'strengthening specialties and optimizing comprehensive services' and the 'people-oriented' service concept, focusing on effective diagnostic and therapeutic techniques and methods. Photodynamic therapy has significantly improved the treatment outcomes for moderate to severe acne, solved the problem of condyloma acuminatum recurrence, and added a new treatment modality for skin tumors in special locations.
Fractional laser has markedly improved depressed scars left by moderate to severe acne on patients' faces, and botulinum toxin injections have addressed the 'facial concerns' of beauty-seeking patients. Precision treatment with biologics has ushered in a new era for patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. While strengthening clinical work, the department also undertakes teaching and clinical practicum duties for the clinical, preventive, international school, and nursing evening college programs of Capital Medical University.
The department utilizes existing resources and emphasizes the enhancement of research capabilities. While improving its own discipline construction, it also focuses on collaboration with other departments and actively engages in clinical research. Over the past five years, the department has published more than 20 research papers. It has secured one grant from the Beijing Natural Science Foundation, one promotion project from the Beijing Municipal Health Commission, and one school-level teaching reform project.
Among the current medical staff of the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Beijing Anzhen Hospital, most have over 20 years of clinical work experience. Their enthusiastic and attentive service, good medical ethics, superb medical skills, and excellent medical-nursing collaboration have earned the department a good reputation among patients over the years. Under the leadership of the hospital and department directors, all staff are full of confidence, ready to meet new challenges, and strive to provide even better medical services to patients.
