The department has 31 beds.
Each year, over 500 surgeries are performed, including minimally invasive spine surgery, anterior and posterior spinal surgeries, artificial shoulder, hip, and knee joint replacements, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, and surgeries for limb trauma and bone diseases, with favorable outcomes. The annual outpatient volume exceeds 80,000 visits. While handling a heavy clinical workload, the department also undertakes theoretical teaching and clinical internship supervision for undergraduate, graduate, and international students of Capital Medical University. It collaborates with other departments on the Sino-French Trauma Training Program.
The department has repeatedly cooperated with Beijing and central radio and television stations on health education programs for public health promotion. It has conducted free clinics in Beijing communities, suburban districts, and Tibetan areas in western provinces. Leveraging the strong capabilities of Anzhen Hospital in diagnosing and treating cardiopulmonary vascular diseases, as well as a deep understanding of comorbidities in elderly orthopedic patients, and with robust support from cardiology, cardiac surgery, anesthesiology, and other departments, the department has successfully performed surgeries on patients with severe spinal and limb injuries complicated by cardiovascular diseases who were previously rejected by other hospitals.
We have held seven sessions of the 'Bone-Heart Intersection Forum', which has become a unique academic brand in orthopedics, anesthesiology, cardiology, and other fields, significantly addressing the confusion of fellow physicians in managing orthopedic surgery patients with cardiovascular diseases. The department currently undertakes multiple research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. In recent years, over 20 papers have been published in SCI-indexed and core journals.
