The department covers multiple areas including digestive endoscopy, gastrointestinal motility, gastrointestinal lesions, small intestinal diseases, and hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases. The annual outpatient volume exceeds 100,000, covering conditions such as reflux esophagitis, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, Helicobacter pylori infection, steatohepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis, ascites, chronic diarrhea, constipation, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, ischemic colitis, gastrointestinal polyps, gastrointestinal tumors, acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic tumors (pancreatic cancer, intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm IPMN, pancreatic serous cystadenoma), common bile duct stones, acute suppurative cholangitis, and other common and critical digestive diseases.
The gastroenterology outpatient clinic is open year-round, including weekends and holidays, with specialty clinics staffed by attending physicians and above. To meet patient needs, the department strives to minimize the waiting time for endoscopic examinations. Currently, C13 breath test results are available on the same day, capsule endoscopy is scheduled within 2 days, gastroscopy within 1 week, and colonoscopy within 2 weeks. The digestive endoscopy center is equipped with the most advanced domestic equipment and can perform a variety of endoscopic examinations and treatments, including electronic gastroscopy, electronic colonoscopy, electronic enteroscopy, duodenoscopy, and electronic endoscopic ultrasound. Over 10,000 endoscopic examinations and treatments are performed annually. The department excels in minimally invasive endoscopic resection of gastrointestinal tumors (including early gastrointestinal cancers, stromal tumors, leiomyomas, laterally spreading polyps) and endoscopic treatment of pancreaticobiliary diseases. Techniques such as EMR, ESD, IDUS, EUS-FNA, DBE, ERCP, multiband mucosectomy (MBM), metal and plastic stent placement, and band ligation and sclerotherapy for esophageal and gastric variceal bleeding from cirrhosis are performed. The department is at a leading domestic level in the management of massive gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of dual antiplatelet therapy-associated gastrointestinal bleeding. The department also undertakes medical, teaching, research, and prevention tasks for Capital Medical University and the Sixth Clinical Medical College, responsible for teaching doctoral and master's graduate students, undergraduate students in preventive and clinical medicine, and international students.
