The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, specializes in various post-cardiac surgery and perioperative cardiopulmonary failure patients, including those undergoing heart transplantation, coronary artery disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, aortic aneurysm, cardiac tumors, ARDS, etc. In 2013, the unit treated over 10,000 cases, with a rescue success rate of over 85% and a mortality rate of only 1.7%.
Currently, the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit has 300 medical staff, including 26 doctors, with a doctor-to-nurse ratio of 1:12. There are 3 with senior professional titles, 12 with associate senior titles, 10 with intermediate titles, and 3 with junior titles. Among them, 2 are postdoctoral or doctoral degree holders, 18 have master's degrees, 10 have bachelor's degrees, and 200 are specialized diploma holders. There are 112 open beds, including 80 for adult monitoring and 32 for pediatric monitoring.
The unit admits patients undergoing cardiac surgery and those with acute or chronic cardiopulmonary failure. While providing basic monitoring and treatment for post-cardiac surgery patients, it also performs extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), invasive and non-invasive respiratory therapy, and hemodynamic monitoring (PiCCO, Swan-Ganz catheter, etc.).
Over 40 papers have been published in domestic and international journals. In 2003, the ICU Communist Youth League branch was awarded the Advanced Youth League Branch in Beijing's health system for SARS prevention and control. In 2008, Head Nurse Liu Shuyuan was honored as "National Advanced Worker in the Health System." In 2009, Head Nurse Liu Shuyuan received the 42nd Florence Nightingale Award.
