The Interventional Diagnosis and Treatment Department of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University, was officially established in April 2013. Its predecessor was the Catheterization Laboratory of Anzhen Hospital, founded in 1984, which was one of the earliest established catheterization laboratories and interventional centers in China, with the highest number of cardiovascular interventional diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed. The department currently has 7 physicians, 45 nurses, and 22 medical technicians, including 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, and 1 associate chief technologist and 1 associate chief nurse each.
The department has four catheterization areas, 18 large angiography machines, 1 hybrid negative-pressure catheterization (operating) room, and over 10 auxiliary devices such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), optical coherence tomography (OCT), fractional flow reserve (FFR) detectors, and rotational atherectomy and laser therapy machines. While providing a platform for the entire hospital's cardiovascular angiography and various interventional treatments, the department also independently or in collaboration with other departments performs various cardiovascular angiographic examinations and interventional therapies. Adhering to the hospital philosophy of 'comprehensive care with a strong specialty focus,' the department primarily engages in cardiovascular interventional therapy while also addressing non-vascular interventional treatments.
Currently, in addition to various cardiovascular angiographic examinations, the department focuses on adult congenital heart disease interventions, including atrial septal defect closure, patent foramen ovale closure, patent ductus arteriosus closure, and ventricular septal defect closure; aortic and peripheral vascular interventions, including endovascular repair for aortic dissection, intramural hematoma, ulcer, and Takayasu arteritis, endovascular repair for aortic pseudoaneurysm, thoracic aortic aneurysm, and abdominal aortic aneurysm, as well as hybrid surgery for complex thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms; pulmonary vascular disease interventional diagnosis and treatment, including pulmonary angiography, right heart catheterization, percutaneous balloon pulmonary angioplasty, and pulmonary vein stent implantation; embolization therapy for hemoptysis, gastrointestinal and gynecological bleeding; and interventional chemoembolization for malignant tumors.
The department performs an average of over 400 endovascular treatments for various major vascular diseases, more than 800 interventional treatments for congenital heart disease, and over 200 interventional diagnoses and treatments for pulmonary vascular diseases and other peripheral interventions annually. The number of endovascular treatment cases for aortic diseases and the treatment outcomes rank among the top in similar single centers worldwide.
