Surgery Department

The Department of Basic Surgery at Peking Union Medical College Hospital has made brilliant achievements in the history of medicine in my country and has produced many nationally and even internationally renowned medical experts, such as Professors Zeng Xianjiu, Zhu Yu, Fei Limin, Jiang Zhuming, Zhong Shouxian, Zhao Yupei, etc. The Department of Basic Surgery was established in 1921 and is one of the core departments with the same age as our hospital. Since the 1980s, under the leadership of successive directors and subject leaders, based on the characteristics of basic surgery, it has been the first to establish specialized professional groups in China: including pancreas, biliary tract, gastrointestinal, vascular, breast, liver, surgical nutrition, critical care and related clinical professional laboratories. After decades and generations of unremitting efforts, it now has 158 hospital beds and 2 molecular biology laboratories, and has become a national diagnosis and treatment center for difficult and severe diseases in the field of general surgery. It has a talent echelon with a reasonable structure and excellent quality. Many experts hold various leadership positions in the Chinese Medical Association and domestic and foreign magazines.
