Surgery

The Department of Surgery of Peking Union Medical College Hospital was established when the Union Medical College was founded. After more than 90 years, many medical luminaries including Huang Jiasi, Wu Yingkai, Zeng Xianjiu, etc. have emerged, as well as many leaders of modern Chinese surgery. It has strong technical force and outstanding specialty advantages. The Department of Surgery includes 13 departments including basic surgery, orthopedics, urology, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, liver surgery, breast surgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, parenteral and enteral nutrition, anesthesiology and critical care medicine. There are a total of 889 employees, 2 academicians of the two academies, and teachers. It has 62 professors, 80 associate professors, and 132 attending physicians; a total of 712 beds and 18 ward units; 7 national key clinical specialties, 8 doctoral programs, 8 master's programs, 33 doctoral supervisors, and 61 master's supervisors. It is a national professional base for standardized training of resident physicians. In the "Ranking of China's Best Hospitals" published by the Institute of Hospital Management of Fudan University in the past five years and in the first discipline evaluation ranking of Peking University's National Medical Data Center in 2015, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, plastic surgery, and anesthesiology departments ranked among the best.
