As one of the earliest departments established in the hospital, the Department of Infectious Diseases of Peking Union Medical College Hospital has gone through years of experience under the leadership of the older generation of infectious disease experts. Previous directors Li Bangqi, Wang Aixia, Sheng Ruiyuan, Deng Guohua, Li Taisheng, etc. have bravely shouldered heavy responsibilities. Taking the prevention and control of infectious diseases in my country as their mission, they have worked together with all department members to play a decisive role in the diagnosis, treatment and control of infectious diseases in different periods, especially infectious diseases. At present, the Department of Infectious Diseases of Peking Union Medical College Hospital has become a national-level medical diagnosis and treatment, medical education and medical research center for infectious diseases in China that integrates medical treatment, scientific research, prevention and personnel training. The Department of Infectious Diseases of Peking Union Medical College Hospital is a doctoral degree-granting site for infectious diseases, a key clinical discipline of the Ministry of Health, a national infectious disease continuing education base, a national infectious disease drug clinical trial base, and a national AIDS comprehensive prevention and treatment demonstration zone training base. Since 2018, it has ranked third in the best specialty reputation rankings of Fudan University Hospital Management Institute. Our department currently has 38 beds and 39 employees, including 19 doctors, 4 laboratory researchers and technicians, and 16 nurses; among them, 7 have senior professional titles and 7 have deputy senior professional titles.The discipline is located in the Department of Infectious Diseases of a general hospital. Its core clinical specialties include diagnosis and treatment of difficult and critical infectious diseases, unexplained fever, diagnosis and treatment of AIDS and opportunistic infections, rational use of antibiotics and prevention and control of nosocomial infections, application of lymphocyte immune subpopulation detection platform, and diagnosis and treatment of infections in immunocompromised populations. It has opened general outpatient clinics, special needs clinics, and hepatitis clinics in the Department of Infectious Diseases. Since 2011, it has opened specialized outpatient clinics such as fever clinics, immunocompromised clinics, and tuberculosis/non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection clinics. The current annual outpatient volume is about 48,000, and the annual number of patients admitted is about 600-800. The Department of Infectious Diseases adheres to clinical problem-oriented scientific and technological innovation, and has achieved fruitful results in the establishment and promotion of a multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnosis and treatment system for AIDS, the construction of an immune function assessment platform, the establishment of a diagnosis and treatment model for difficult and characteristic diseases "unexplained fever", "four-in-one" real-time antibiotic management, and tuberculosis risk assessment and prevention for immune-compromised populations. He has undertaken more than ten national, provincial and ministerial level projects, published hundreds of high-level research papers, taken the lead in formulating multiple clinical guidelines and expert consensus, and played a good leading role in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of infectious diseases.In particular, Director Li Taisheng and others took the lead in releasing the "China AIDS Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines", which have been updated to 5 editions so far, and have given more than 200 lectures across the country, playing a key role in improving the level of comprehensive AIDS diagnosis and treatment in my country. Since its establishment, the department has won the first prize of Union Hospital Medical Achievement Award 10 times and the National, Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award 12 times. Members of the department serve as chairman, president, vice-chairman, standing committee member and other important positions in national societies and Beijing societies, including the Infectious Diseases Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Tropical Diseases and Parasites Branch, the Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine Branch, the Hospital Infection Professional Committee of the Chinese Hospital Association, and the Chinese Association of Research Hospitals.
