北京协和医院风湿免疫科由“中国风湿病学之父”张乃峥教授于1980年建科，以“科研为龙头，教学为基础，医疗为根本，平台是基石，资源是未来”为理念，历经近四十年发展，目前在职教授21名、副教授10名（博士研究生导师11人，硕士研究生导师12人），主治医师11名，专职实验室人员7名，年门诊量15 余万人次，开放床位68张，年收治患者1200余人次，是全国公认的“疑难危重风湿病诊治中心”。作为首个国家教委风湿病学博士/博士后培养单位、风湿病学重点学科单位，卫生部住院医师培训基地、国家级风湿免疫科专科继续教育基地、国家级风湿药物临床试验基地，近9年连续被认定为教育部风湿免疫病重点实验室、国家风湿免疫病临床重点学科、国家皮肤与免疫疾病临床医学研究中心（NCRC-DID）、亚太抗风湿病联盟“卓越中心”（APLAR-COE）称号。在“敬佑生命·2017 荣耀医者”评选中荣获“金牌团队奖”。科室在复旦大学医院管理研究所公布的“中国最佳医院排名榜”风湿专科中连续 15 年蝉联榜首，在《中国医院科技影响力排行榜》连续 11 年专科第一名。
