Cardiology Department

Peking Union Medical College Hospital

In June 1921, the Beijing Medical Association used a stringed heart electrode to record China's first case of cardiac electrodes, and in 1931 the Beijing Medical Association established the first department of cardiology in China's history, including a clinic for cardiology and a laboratory for cardiac clinical physiology. After the anti-Japanese war, in 1948 the Beijing Association Hospital's internal cardiology team was reorganized, upgraded the old-style cord-line heart machine to become the first domestic 12 line heart machine and expanded its application nationwide, greatly contributing to the development of cardiology in China. In 1951, doctors at the Beijing Medical Association Hospital Huang Li, Fuang Li and others pioneered in the country the examination, diagnosis and evaluation of right-sided cardiac ducts for congenital heart disease, rheumatoid cardiovascular disease and narrowing of the coronary artery, laying the foundations for the use of interventional cardiology and blood dynamics monitoring. In 1979, a specialised group of cardiologists formed by major internal medicine was established and entered a rapidly developing phase.
