Congenital aortic sinus aneurysm

Internal Medicine / Surgery / Oncology

Congenital aortic sinus aneurysm is a rare congenital cardiac malformation, first described by Hope in 1839. According to reports, the incidence is higher in Eastern countries than in Western countries, and it is more common in males than in females. In China, the incidence accounts for approximately 1%-2% of congenital heart disease. Unruptured aortic sinus aneurysms do not present clinical symptoms, but severe symptoms appear after rupture. The age of onset is mostly between 20 and 40 years, with about one-third of patients having an acute onset. The surgical mortality rate in China is approximately 5%-10%, and long-term surgical outcomes are satisfactory.
