Internal Medicine
If a patient with many years of benign hypertension or hypertensive nephropathy transforms into malignant hypertension (accelerated type) within a few weeks or months, or presents with accelerated hypertension from the onset, it often causes severe renal pathological changes, namely malignant nephrosclerosis. Renal function deteriorates rapidly, resulting in progressive renal failure.
