Hemorrhagic shock

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Shock caused by massive blood loss is called hemorrhagic shock (HS), commonly seen in bleeding due to trauma, peptic ulcer bleeding, rupture of esophageal varices, and bleeding caused by obstetric and gynecological diseases. Whether shock occurs after blood loss depends not only on the amount of blood loss but also on the rate of blood loss. Shock often occurs when there is rapid, massive blood loss (exceeding 30-35% of total blood volume) without timely replacement.
