Alcohol poisoning

Internal Medicine

Alcoholism refers to mental and physical disorders caused by alcohol consumption. Alcohol dependence refers to a series of withdrawal symptoms that can occur in chronic alcoholics once they stop drinking. Excessive alcohol (ethanol) consumption can produce initial excitation followed by inhibition of the central nervous system, and severe poisoning can cause respiratory and cardiac depression leading to death. In fact, alcohol-dependent individuals are often in a state of intoxication. The incidence of alcoholism in China is lower than in Western countries, but in recent years, the incidence appears to be increasing, which should be given attention.
