Diabetic heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in diabetic patients, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes. In a broad sense, diabetic heart disease includes coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (coronary heart disease), diabetic cardiomyopathy, and diabetic cardiac autonomic neuropathy. Compared with non-diabetic patients, diabetic heart disease often has an earlier onset. Diabetic patients with coronary heart disease often present with painless myocardial infarction, larger infarct areas, more transmural infarctions, more severe conditions, poorer prognosis, and higher mortality rates.
