Premature atrial contraction

Premature atrial contractions originate from any site in the atria other than the sinoatrial node. In normal adults undergoing 24-hour electrocardiographic monitoring, about 60% have premature atrial contractions. Premature atrial contractions can occur in patients with various organic heart diseases and are often a precursor to the occurrence of rapid atrial arrhythmias.
