Accelerated atrial escape rhythm
Internal Medicine / Pediatrics / Traditional Chinese Medicine
Accelerated atrial escape rhythm is commonly seen in organic heart disease involving the atria, such as rheumatic heart disease, chronic cor pulmonale, pulmonary infection, emphysema, coronary heart disease, myocarditis, post-cardiac surgery, and digitalis toxicity. It is rarely seen in normal individuals. The appearance of accelerated atrial escape rhythm suggests some damage to the atrial myocardium. However, it generally has no significant hemodynamic impact and is not prone to developing into atrial fibrillation.
