Cardiac arrest

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Cardiac arrest refers to the sudden cessation of the heart's blood ejection function, with disappearance of large artery pulsation and heart sounds, and severe ischemia and hypoxia of vital organs (such as the brain), leading to termination of life. This unexpected sudden death is medically also called sudden death. The most common cause of cardiac arrest is ventricular fibrillation. If the patient does not respond when called, and there is no reaction to pressure on the supraorbital or infraorbital regions, it can be determined that the patient is in a comatose state. Then observe whether there is rising and falling respiratory movement of the chest and abdomen. If there is no pulsation on palpation of the carotid and femoral arteries, and no heartbeat is heard on auscultation of the precordial area, it can be determined that the patient has experienced cardiac arrest.
