Cardiomyopathy

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Although patients with dilated cardiomyopathy are not numerous, we still need to understand the clinical manifestations that patients with dilated cardiomyopathy will present before we can provide symptomatic nursing care. Moreover, patients with myocarditis generally experience dyspnea, which requires us to make a proper diagnosis of the disease to avoid seeing the wrong doctor. I. Guide patients to adjust themselves, maintain a happy mood, eliminate pessimistic emotions, and increase confidence in treatment. II. 1. Patients with cardiomyopathy should be given a low-sodium, low-fat, easily digestible diet, with small frequent meals, avoiding irritating and gas-producing foods. 2. Restrict sodium salt intake and appropriately control water intake and food quantity to avoid weight gain, thereby reducing the cardiac burden. In cases of severe heart failure or severe edema, salt intake should be controlled below 6 g/day. 3. Pay attention to supplementing high-quality protein, such as soybeans and fish, while limiting animal fats. 4. Increase intake of high-fiber foods, develop a regular bowel habit, and maintain smooth defecation. 5. Quit smoking and limit alcohol. III. 1. For patients with dyspnea predominantly due to left heart failure, guide them to assume a semi-recumbent position, which can reduce pulmonary congestion and relieve dyspnea; for patients with tissue edema predominantly due to right heart failure, avoid dependent positioning of the lower limbs and fixed postures, and intermittently elevate the lower limbs, alternating between lateral, supine, and semi-recumbent positions. 2. For patients with obvious heart failure symptoms accompanied by severe arrhythmias, recurrent dizziness, or even syncope, instruct strict bed rest and avoid all factors that increase cardiac load. 3. When total heart failure occurs, guide passive limb movement and massage to prevent thrombosis. 4. After the condition stabilizes, encourage patients to gradually increase activity levels and formulate a daily activity plan based on their cardiac function status. The above is a summary of knowledge by our experts for patients with cardiomyopathy. However, patients with cardiomyopathy should also pay attention to exercising more in daily life to enhance the body's resistance, and increase a light diet, so as to effectively improve the treatment outcome.
