Senile shock

Internal Medicine

Senile shock is a syndrome in which various pathogenic factors cause neurohumoral imbalance and acute microcirculatory disturbance, leading to insufficient blood perfusion of tissues and organs, cell damage, and organ dysfunction. Clinically, in the early stage of shock, patients manifest restlessness, reluctance to answer questions, or talkativeness, which later changes to apathy and sluggish response, indicating that shock has entered the decompensated stage. In severe cases, there may be unconsciousness or even deep coma. In the elderly, due to frequent cerebral atherosclerosis, brain tissue has poor tolerance to ischemia and hypoxia. Symptoms include pale and cold skin, prolonged blanching time on finger pressure, decreased blood pressure, increased pulse rate to 100/min or above, extremely low urine output or even anuria, shallow breathing, and respiratory depression.
