Dysphagia due to esophageal compression

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Dysphagia due to esophageal compression is a disease caused by abnormalities of vessels derived from the aortic arch compressing the esophagus and trachea, clinically presenting with dysphagia and/or inspiratory dyspnea as the main symptoms. Bayford (1794) first reported it, describing the symptoms caused by an aberrant right subclavian artery compressing the esophagus. Sauder (1947) achieved success in dividing a vascular ring (encircling the trachea and esophagus).
