Gastrojejunal afferent loop syndrome

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Afferent loop syndrome refers to a series of symptoms caused by dilation of the afferent loop and retention of its contents after gastrojejunostomy. Afferent Loop Syndrome is a condition in which bile or pancreatic juice stasis occurs due to obstruction of the afferent loop after Billroth II gastrectomy with antecolic anastomosis. There are two types: acute and chronic obstruction. The former is usually complete obstruction, while the latter is reversible and partial obstruction.
