Acute gastritis is an acute inflammation of the gastric mucosa caused by multiple etiologies. Clinically, it often has an acute onset and commonly presents with upper abdominal symptoms. Endoscopic examination may reveal transient lesions such as hyperemia, edema, hemorrhage, and erosion of the gastric mucosa (which may be accompanied by superficial ulcers). The pathohistological feature is inflammatory cell infiltration predominantly composed of neutrophils in the lamina propria of the gastric mucosa.
