Headache

Internal Medicine / Traditional Chinese Medicine

Headache is one of the most common clinical symptoms. Pain localized to the upper half of the head, including the area above the line connecting the supraorbital ridge, the upper edge of the helix, and the external occipital protuberance, is generally collectively referred to as headache. The pain-inducing factors can be physical, chemical, biochemical, or mechanical. These factors stimulate the sensory nerve endings located in the intracranial and extracranial tissue structures, which are transmitted to the brain through corresponding pathways for perception. The treatment of headache primarily lies in actively preventing and treating various primary diseases. All causes that may trigger headache should be reduced, including avoiding soft tissue injury and infection of the head and neck, avoiding contact with and ingestion of irritating foods, avoiding emotional fluctuations, etc. At the same time, primary diseases causing secondary headache should be promptly diagnosed and treated. Usually, paying more attention to rest and ensuring adequate sleep can effectively prevent the occurrence of headache.
