Mental disorders associated with digestive system diseases

Internal Medicine / 精神科

Since the 1950s, there have been frequent reports on cerebral symptoms caused by liver disease. Chinese scholars have also successively reported on the early stages of hepatic encephalopathy and psychiatric disorders associated with different liver diseases since 1963. Hepatic encephalopathy, also known as hepatocerebral syndrome, is a syndrome caused by severe liver disease, based on metabolic disturbances, and characterized by severe somatic symptoms and neuropsychiatric symptoms as prominent features. Because the relationship between liver function and the brain is very close, once liver function is severely impaired, psychiatric symptoms can clinically appear. The psychiatric symptoms are mainly manifested as disturbances of consciousness and coma.
