Pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma is also a proliferative cyst of the pancreas and may arise from malignant transformation of pancreatic cystadenoma. This disease is extremely rare clinically, accounting for only 1% of pancreatic malignant tumors. The earliest literature reports on pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma were published by Kaufman in 1911 and Lichenstem in 1834 in German and American journals, respectively. In 1963, Cullen found 17 cases of pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma with complete data and confirmable diagnosis among all 2.4 million inpatient records at the Mayo Clinic. As of 1984, Segessen counted only slightly more than 100 cases of pancreatic cystadenocarcinoma reported in medical literature worldwide; in China, they were all scattered individual case reports or reports of a small number of cases.
