Gastric diaphragm

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Congenital gastric diaphragm is a rare gastrointestinal malformation. Its incidence rate is approximately 1/100,000, accounting for about 1% of gastrointestinal atresias. It is currently believed that the formation of a pyloric diaphragm results from excessive proliferation of local endodermal tissue. Imperforate diaphragms are seen in neonates, while perforated diaphragms are seen in children and adults. According to statistics, there is no significant difference in incidence between males and females.
