habitual constipation
Internal Medicine / Surgery / Traditional Chinese Medicine
Habitual constipation refers to long-term, chronic functional constipation, most commonly occurring in the elderly. Some scholars believe that habitual constipation is not limited to functional constipation; it also includes colonic constipation and rectal constipation. Therefore, people suffering from habitual constipation should go to the hospital early to determine the cause of constipation and receive symptomatic treatment. Habitual constipation is mainly caused by changes in lifestyle, diet, and bowel habits, as well as psychological factors. If these causes are not corrected during treatment, the therapeutic effect is often poor. Drug treatment is only a temporary measure, and long-term dependence on laxatives will only gradually worsen the degree of constipation. Lifestyle regulation is the fundamental treatment.
