Damp-heat dysentery is one of the syndrome types of dysentery. If damp-heat toxic pathogens are excessive in the blood aspect, damaging the intestinal collaterals, and causing pure blood in the stool, it is called "red dysentery" or "blood dysentery." If the pathogenic factors damage both qi and blood, causing qi stagnation in the intestines and injury to the intestinal collaterals, with stools containing both red and white, mixed pus and blood, severe abdominal colic, and frequent defecation, it is called "red-white dysentery."
