gastrointestinal food poisoning

Internal Medicine

Bacterial food poisoning refers to an acute infectious toxic disease caused by ingesting food contaminated with bacteria or bacterial toxins. Based on different clinical manifestations, it is divided into gastrointestinal-type food poisoning and neurotoxic-type food poisoning. Gastrointestinal-type food poisoning is more common in summer and autumn when temperatures are higher and bacteria readily grow and multiply in food, with acute gastroenteritis symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea as the main features.
