Abnormal liver function

Internal Medicine / Traditional Chinese Medicine

Abnormal liver function occurs when the liver is damaged by certain pathogenic factors, which can cause destruction of liver morphology and structure (degeneration, necrosis, cirrhosis) and abnormal liver function. Mild damage, through the compensatory function of the liver, generally does not cause obvious functional abnormalities; if the damage is relatively severe and extensive, causing obvious metabolic disorders, decreased detoxification function, impaired bile formation and excretion, and bleeding tendency and other abnormal liver function changes, it is called hepatic insufficiency, i.e., abnormal liver function. Abnormal liver function is easily confused with hepatitis B. In liver function test reports, there are mainly two types: alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Generally speaking, abnormal liver function refers to elevated levels of these two transaminases. Most experts believe that if the serum ALT value exceeds 2.5 times the upper limit of normal and persists for more than half a month, hepatobiliary disease can be considered; if the measured value exceeds 20 times the upper limit of normal, generally speaking, it can only be caused by hepatobiliary disease, mainly due to hepatocyte injury; if hepatitis B virus markers are positive, hepatitis B can be diagnosed.
