Pyogenic portal vein phlebitis

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Suppurative pylephlebitis refers to suppurative inflammation of the main portal vein and its intrahepatic branches. This condition is often associated with multiple bacterial liver abscesses. Suppurative foci in organs supplied by portal vein branches can lead to the occurrence of this disease. The extent of involvement may include the main portal vein or its branches, or the entire intrahepatic portal venous system.
