Insufficient blood supply to a specific region of the gastrointestinal tract causes gastrointestinal dysfunction. The etiology of inadequate gastrointestinal blood supply includes arteriosclerosis, cardiac insufficiency—especially right-sided heart failure—and others. Clinical manifestations include epigastric pain, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, anorexia, preference for warmth in the epigastrium, and gastrointestinal paresis. It is often accompanied by hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.
