Viral hepatitis type E (HE) is a self-limiting infectious disease. Its mode of transmission, clinical manifestations, and prognosis are similar to those of hepatitis A (HAV), but the incidence of hepatitis E in children is low, and the high mortality rate in pregnant women with hepatitis E is a characteristic of this type of hepatitis. Its epidemiological features are also similar to hepatitis A, transmitted via the fecal-oral route, with a marked seasonality, often seen after the rainy season or floods. It does not become chronic and has a good prognosis.
