Isosporiasis is a parasitic protozoan disease caused by Isospora parasitizing the intestinal mucosal epithelium of humans, resulting in intestinal mucosal damage. Clinical manifestations include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal tenderness. There are two species of Isospora that parasitize humans: Isospora belli and Isospora natalensis. The main species infecting humans is Isospora belli, while Isospora natalensis is very rare.
