Ischemic hepatitis refers to centrilobular necrosis of the liver caused by reversible severe hypotension and hypoxemia, often resulting from congestive heart failure, shock, liver trauma, and after cardiac surgery, leading to cardiogenic or hypovolemic shock, particularly related to hepatic reperfusion injury after shock. Clinical manifestations resemble acute hepatitis, with persistently and significantly elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), but without evidence of hepatitis virus infection or hepatotoxic drug exposure.
