Duodenal leiomyosarcoma is a tumor originating from the muscularis mucosae or muscularis propria of the duodenum, or from the muscular layer of the intestinal wall blood vessels. Based on its histological features, it is classified into leiomyoma, leiomyosarcoma, and epithelioid leiomyoma, the latter being rare. Since leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma show no significant differences in presentation and are difficult to distinguish in nature on gross examination, they are often discussed together clinically.
