As one of the vital organs of the human body, the liver possesses functions such as synthesis, detoxification, metabolism, secretion, biotransformation, and immune defense, and is therefore also known as the "processing plant." When it suffers severe damage caused by various factors, resulting in massive necrosis of hepatocytes, the liver's own functions become seriously impaired or decompensated, leading to a group of clinical syndromes characterized mainly by coagulation disorders, jaundice, hepatic encephalopathy, and ascites, which is termed liver failure.
